We chatted with Luke and Oscar over breakfast and then we left Benoit's place about 10 am. Our first stop was The Lion's Mound, erected between 1824 and 1826, commemorates the spot of the battle of Waterloo in 1815, only 2 km away from Benoit's place. The lion symbolizes the victory of the allied armies defeating France.
We continued on our route which took us on a bike path but along a busy highway. We were glad to turn off that highway and proceed through the countryside trails. That is where we met Freddy from Brussels, a fellow bike tourer who helped guide us through the roads. We chatted with him for a long way. We stopped and had lunch with him and he showed us his maps and guides to help us plan our routes in the next few days.
We ended our cycling day at Vincent and Ghislaine's garden, a lovely little place in the town of Emines. They were such a hospitable couple who took us in and made us feel very welcome. Vincent guided Mary and I through the town to find food. Then, before supper, they provided us with a local beer tasting experience, followed by dinner with wine and a salad from their garden.
