Another rainy night and morning. We left Vincent's place with rain gear on.
We had a good breakfast in the main old square. Then, we met Mary in a small suburb outside of Arras and headed off towards Vimy Ridge, only 8 kms away.
Once we arrived at Vimy Ridge we signed up for a guided tour of the tunnels and trenches. The guide gave an excellent explanation of the Canadian's soldiers success in capturing the ridge. The guide told stories of the difficult conditions the soldiers lived through. Finally, we visited the monument which is a powerful reminder of the bravery of the soldiers and the hope for the future.
We rode on towards Lens and stopped at a campground that was only a kid's campground. So, we rode on a few more kms and found a municipal campground that would take us. This was the cheapest campground we have ever been to...7 euros!!!!
We rode into Violaines, the closest town, for dinner where the owner of the restaurant insisted we bring our bikes inside the restaurant for security reasons!!
