We had rain overnight, which cooled the air, and provided a much more comfortable ride than yesterday afternoon.

Initially we rode through some nice shaded areas. Then, we were back out in the open country again.

We rode past BASF, the largest chemical plant in the world, which covers 10 sqkm along the west side of the Rhine, across from Manneheim. It has its own internal transportation system including buses, trains and a fleet of bicycles for its 32,000 workers.

We took a ferry to cross the Rhine at Gernsheim in order to get to our campsite. The campsite seemed to be very isolated and we did not expect much in the way of facilities but we were pleasantly surprised by the clean and comfortable amenities.

After dinner we played some cards and turned in early. We were expecting a cool night.
