With a big (long) day ahead of us, we fueled up on a really nice breakfast that the Masseria had for us.

Our first stop was at the quarry lake of Bauxite known for its turquoise water, framed by jagged rocks and hidden in a scrubby landscape. It did not disappoint.... it was beautiful!!

We rode along the coastal route for most of the way with stunning views of the sea and coastline at every turn.

Another incredible stop was at the Grotta (cave) Zinzulusa near Castro. This dramatic seafront cave system is a natural karst cave, 200 metres into the bowels of the earth and contains numerous prehistoric traces. It was discovered in the 1700's and opened to the public in 1957.

Our next stop was in Tricase Porto at a little restaurant run by a non profit organization dealing with environmental issues and local agricultural production work. They gave us a hearty sampling of some typical local products and the host was very gracious.

There were quite a few hills to climb today so we were very happy to arrive at our accomodation in Santa Maria di Leuca about 6 pm. We got settled into our rooms and then walked into town for a pizza.
