Another early morning to take the train to Rome which took about 3 hours from Salerno. Once at the train station, we took a taxi to our next accommodation, a Monastery, in the heart of Rome.  The others in our group stayed at a different location.

The nuns that greeted us were very nice. Once we settled into our room, we went out to explore Rome. Our first stop was the Spanish Steps, considered the widest and longest staircase in Europe. The steps were actually commissioned by the French in the 17th century but the Spanish Embassy was located on the square at the base of the staircase, hence the name "Spanish Steps".

We continued our walk to Trevi Fountain built in the 18th century. This fountain has such intricate artwork and sculptures. It is truly beautiful!! There were many people around the fountain but we managed to get a few good photos of us, thanks to the kind offer from a lady who saw us trying to take a selfie!!

On our way back to our Monastery, we passed by a large archeological site (part of the Roman forum) where they are still uncovering ancient ruins and artifacts!! The Colosseum was also on our route back to the Monastery.

We went out for a bite to eat in a local pizzeria.
