We got up extra early today so that we could catch an early ferry to Capri, a pretty island about 2 hours away. It was already quite crowded with tourists.  The first thing we did was to buy tickets to go up on the funicular to the top of the hill

which lasted about 5 minutes, and then we were greeted by fantastic views of the town below, the mountainous terrain, the harbour and the sea.  There are many walking trails to choose from. We chose a walk to the coast where there is a "natural arch". It was a nice walk, about 40 minutes, with quite a bit of uphill and downhill slopes.  But the scenery along the way was spectacular and the end of the trail was well worth the effort to get there. A very large stone in the shape of an arch stood before us with sparkling turquoise water below.

We walked back to the funicular and went back down to the harbour area. We purchased sandwiches and drinks, found a spot of the beach and ate lunch. Then we walked to the other side of town and found a more secluded beach in the Gulf of Naples. The water was cool but we swam anyway. It felt good after all the walking!!

Before boarding our ferry back to Salerno, we had a drink in one of the many harbour side restaurants.

Getting on the ferry was an interesting experience as it seems that all the tourists just come for the day (as we did) and then it is chaotic to try to figure out which line up to get into. Anyway, we made it on the right ferry and arrived back in Salerno about 7:15 pm. The ride back was also very nice as it was dark and mountain side was lit up with the lights of the houses and towns. Very pretty!

We stopped for dinner at an Irish Pub!!
