Another wonderful breakfast at our Masseria.

We found that one of the bikes had a flat tire, before we left. Once that was fixed, we were ready to go. We rode on country roads back to the coast, stopping to pick up some groceries for lunch.

We stopped at Punta della Suina, which is a famous summer beach, for a picnic lunch. It was a windy day and the waves were crashing up on the rocks which was fun to watch. We had a lovely view of the city of Gallipoli from this beach, which is our next stop, about 8 km away.

Gallipoli's harbour was one of the most important ones in the Mediterranean Sea in the 1700's for the trading of lamp olive oil which was exported to all of Europe. We cycled to the old town centre (a small island connected to the mainland by a bridge) and went around the outside perimeter with sea views on our right and old authentic alleyways on our left. There are many restaurants and bars along the water which were tempting us to stop and enjoy but we had to keep going because we still had 20 km or so to go.

We arrived at our accomodation for the next 2 nights about 6 pm. Our hostess ordered pizzas for us and, once we were settled in our rooms, we had a nice dinner in their main house. This is a beautiful estate with a vast lawn , a variety of flower gardens and fruit trees.

We were quite tired from a long day of cycling and touring.

Outside wall of Gallipoli. Late afternoon sunbathers.
