We have good intentions of getting on the road early but will have to get better at that...we were on the road only at 9:30 today. Went through lots of farmland and quite a few hills. Needless to say, we had to walk our bikes up many of them. Some of the hills were as much as 15% grade and one was 20% (fortunately we went down that one😄) We arrived in Saumur about noon. Nice city and one which deserved more time but we decided to push on. Then the cycle route took us through the troglodyte village in Souzay-Champigny. So interesting! The limestone cliffs below the town are riddled with caves. These contain a spectacular underground village with underground streets and houses. We walked all through the area. It was nice to get out of the heat too! Then we were quickly in the vineyards with beautiful views of the valley below. Very old wineries everywhere. Finally we arrived at our destination and both feeling pretty tired out.
