Regensburg is the most northerly point reached by the Danube and as such, played an important role in transport and trading between Italy and central Europe, with the first bridge (built 1146) built over this section of the Danube. The old city is a UNESCO heritage site. It is a lovely city full of small alleys and platz's. We sat in the main cathedral at noon and listened to their organ.

Then, it was on to Straubing which we found out was the site of the 2nd largest Bavarian annual beer festival after Munich and just happened to be on at this time. It was packed with people and the beer tents were in full swing. We couldn't resist... but a litre stein was the smallest we could buy!! That with some sausages and "kraut" was great!

We drove on to a small campsite a few kilometres west of Paussau and settled in for the night.
