We started our sightseeing on the Pest side today with our first stop at Heroes' Square. This is a huge open area with a tall (36 m) column memorial in the middle, surrounded by statuess of Hungarian rulers and generals. It is quite a majestic and impressive display.

We walked around the other side of the square to find a very large city park with a lake. As we strolled through the area, we came upon Vajdahunyad Castle and area. The Gothic castle, church and Agriculture museum buildings have very unique architecture.

Stopping in the park for a beer, we were approached by a man and his wife who noticed Judy's Canadian buff. He is from Vancouver and living/working in Budapest. We had a great chat.

We headed back downtown on the bus, and took a break by soaking our feet in a local pool. Felt good!!

Then, we joined a guided walking tour. The highlight of this tour was seeing the "Shoes by the Danube", 60 pairs of bronze shoes modelled on footwear from the 1940's to commemorate those who were shot into the Danube by the Hungarian Nazis. Very moving.

We ended our day with a night boat cruise. The city at night is gorgeous!!
