We decided that we wanted to explore Basel and didn't want our loaded bikes to deal with while touring around the city. So we booked another night at the campground.

We started into the city on our bikes (no gear) and ended up on a bike path that had a gate across it so we couldn't go any further. Just at that moment a man came along expecting to travel the same path. He said, "follow me and I'll take you downtown". So we did. It worked out perfectly!

Basel seems to have a mix of old and modern. Lots of electric trollies and buses. We locked our bikes up, found the tourist office and started a self guided walking tour. Of course, the tour took us to churches. One of the churches has a coffee shop and bar right in side the main door and yet it is all set up for church services. The city's town hall has a red facade with frescoes - it really stands out.

It was fun to watch the many swimmers floating down the Rhine. They have air filled bags which they can also put their clothes in, so once they have gone down a ways, they can get out and get changed and go about the rest of their day!! We enjoyed Basel and happy that we decided to spend some time here.
