Up early and said good bye to our friends that we had met from our Italy trip. We crossed the old bridge in Mainz and headed out of town. It took about 9 km to get out of Mainz and into the countryside. We rode along the dykes once again. We stopped for coffee in Heidenfarht and then lunch in a park in Bingen.

Once we continued along the route past Bingen, the Rhine became more narrow and the hills were steeper, the Rhine Gorge. This is the beginning of castles on the hilltops and historical landmarks.

We arrived at our campsite in Bacarach about 3 pm. We checked in, set up camp and sat on the beach for happy hour!!.

We had dinner at the campsite restaurant with a view of the Rhine and the many boats that cruise along the river.
