Nice sunny day!
We made our first stop in Lier, a small city just south of Antwerp. We sat in main square and had a coffee and croissant. A local resident stopped to talk as he was curious about our loaded bikes He gave us a few pointers about the city. Another young couple who are bike touring also stopped to talk with us. We exchanged blog links and shared some thoughts of bike touring in this area.
Lier was bombed in the war and, according to the local resident that stopped to talk, only a few buildings survived including the Zimmer Tower, a unique astronomical clock built in the 1930s.
We left Lier about 1130 which was far to late as it meant that we would arrive late at our destination for the night. It was a long and hot ride to Ertvelde and we had a few detours due to construction but we arrived there about 7:30 pm. First thing we did was go and get supper as we were both pretty hungry and tired. It was a late night.
