We packed everything up and started the process of taking all our gear down the 4 flights of stairs. We managed to get everything down with no incidents. A nice sunny day for riding.

We headed out of Cologne along the Rhine. it took close to 12 km, mostly along industrial areas, to get out into the countryside. From then on it was nice and quiet riding on dykes. We stopped for a coffee break just past the medieval town of Zons.

We arrived at our campsite near Langst-Kierst about 3:30. They weren't going to take us at first because they were "full" citing the World's largest campervan exhibition taking place in Duesseldorf as the reason. However, they accepted us once they saw how hot and tired we were but they said they could not give us any shade. We said no problem as we did not want to ride on at this point.

We set up our tent right beside the Rhine River in a small field. It was OK. Mary and I went into the river to cool off.

Once everyone had showers, the rain started to come down. We dashed over to the restaurant for drinks and dinner while we watched a vivid thunder and lightening storm. It lasted a short while and then it was over.

As it gets dark now around 8:30, we called it an early night.
