We did not get the rain as expected overnight We woke up to a nice sunny morning. We said our goodbyes to Marja and left for Baarle-Hertog-Nassau. The bike riding was easy going, along a large canal. Then we diverted to a much smaller canal. Lots of old oak trees lining the canals and not many other cyclists or people on the path.

We booked into a 1 bedroom apartment for the night near Baarle, arriving about 1330. This is a beautifully renovated barn on a hobby farm and used to be a ''crisis'' barn built after World War 2, for the purpose of supporting the local farmers whose farms were destroyed. Our host left us a bottle of wine, cheese and chocolate which was a welcome surprise...and fresh farm eggs from our host's chickens for tomorrow's breakfast!! Equipped with a washer and dryer, we were able to properly clean our clothes.

We rode into Barrle for groceries and to visit the information centre.

The Dutch municipality Baarle-Nassau surrounds entirely the Belgian municipality Baarle-Hertog. Not one, but 22 Belgian pieces make up this Belgian municipality. Baarle-Nassau then again has 7 enclaves which lie in the two largest Belgian pieces. It seems complicated but we intend to explore and learn more about it tomorrow.
