Ostuni was one of our favorite spots and so it was sad to leave today. However, we ventured out to the coast, leaving Ostuni not far behind. About 15 kilometers and we were at the Adriatic Sea once again.

We decided to try to find all the points of interest that our host from Ostuni told us about. First though, we went to a campsite to get a spot and set up camp. Good thing we went there first because they were closed for the season, even though their website indicated that there were still open. So, we travelled up the coast towards another campground, after calling them to confirm that they were still open. Along the way, Judy somehow managed to ride over a nasty thorn which punctured the inner tube. Thankfully, she has a handy bike mechanic to help out!!

We got to a place called Rosa Marina, only to find out that the road turned into a private road and we could not proceed to Pilone, where are campsite was. So we had to make an 8 kilometer detour into the country to get to our destination. Thankfully it was a nice ride through more ancient olive groves.

The campground was virtually empty, only a few camper vans but no other tenters that we could see. It is a lovely shaded spot and the sound of the sea crashing is soothing. After we set up camp, we took a stroll to the sea to see the sunset. The evening was rather cool so we had to pull out the warmer clothes that we brought along.

These are considered ancient olive groves. The trees are twisted and gnarly but beautiful.
