Getting through Brindisi was a bit challenging, lots of traffic and other cyclists.

Once we were out of the city, the roads were pretty good. We chose the country roads instead of the busy highway. That was a good decision for most of the way but, after awhile, we found ourselves on some really bad country roads. We were following the "cycle" route but it turned out to be quite challenging in spots. Some of the dirt roads were too soft to ride on so we had to walk our bikes for part of it.

Finally back on asphalt roads and getting quite close to Lecce, we came upon some people burning brush by the side of the road. It was either go through the smoke or backtrack quite a long way. We decided to proceed. For a few seconds the smoke was really bad, stinging our eyes but we went through it as fast as we could.

We were happy to make it to Lecce and find our apartment. We will stay here for a few days before joining our friends from Montreal who will be here on Sept 30.

We found the local grocery store and returned to make our dinner.

Another day of adventure in Italy!!

The only way to get to Lecce was to go through this!!
