We arrived at our hotel in Belgrade in late afternoon. Too late to go on a walking tour so we took advice and a map from the hotel staff, downloaded an online self-guided walking tour and set off on foot to explore what we could in a couple of hours.

Only a few feet away from our hotel, we stopped to look at the Bajrakli Mosque, built in 1575, and the only remaining mosque out of 273 that were in the city at one point. Then, we walked towards a pedestrian shopping area on Prince Michael Street, one of the oldest streets and lined with impressive buildings from the 1800's. We continued towards the other end of the city centre, stopping at the Imperial Palace and gardens for a photo opp and then to visit the Cathedral of Saint Sava, the largest Orthodox building in the world. On our way back to the city centre, we passed the Parliament buildings, the Tesla museum (inventor of electricity) and St Mark's church. Unfortunately, it was too late to go into any of these landmarks but we got a few pictures of their beautiful architecture.

We ended the day with dinner at a restaurant on Skardarliji Street, an old cobblestone street lined with restaurants and cafes. Most of them had live music for the guests. The restaurant we chose is 150 years old so we figured thet must know what they're doing! And it came recommended by the hotel staff. Great food and great music!!
