Today was our first day of rain, all day long.

We got a box from our local DHL courier site, packed up our camping gear and sent it home since we are only staying in B&B's and rental units from now on. Glad we don't have to lug all of that stuff for the last 3 weeks of our trip.

So what to do on a rainy day?? Go to a museum, of course!! We put on a spiffy new waterproof ponchos and headed out to the Faggiano Archeological Museum. This private museum has a very interesting story. It started with a man who purchased a seemingly unremarkable building and wanted to renovate it to become a restaurant. The only problem was the sewage backing up. And so, he and his 3 sons started to dig a trench to investigate, and thought it would take a week to fix the problem. As they dug, they found underground corridors, which led to other rooms and so they kept digging. They basically found a subterranean world tracing back to before the birth of Jesus: a Messapian tomb, a Roman granary, a Franciscan chapel and etchings from the Knight's Templar. The excavation took 7 years and the family themselves did it all. Their story appeared on the front page of The New York Times on April 15, 2015.

We left the museum wondering what other fascinating ancient sites have not been discovered in this country, what lies beneath the narrow alleys and piazza's.

We picked up some groceries on our way back to our apartment and started the process of drying out our shoes! The rest of us was nice and dry.

The old chapel of the convent.
