Today was our last complete day on the Loire River. We left early towards the city of Bournbon-Lancy. This section (first 15 km) was described in our travel guide as gentle rolling hills. I'm not convinced the 8- 10 percent grades are gentle; but we did give the "granny" gear a good workout. Very nice landscape, well tended farms. It was, however, stinking hot out, forecast temps in the low 40's. We got this section done early then had a very gentle and mostly flat ride along one of the many canals in France. Very nice ride, mostly shaded. Along the way we crossed paths with a few boaters going the other way. Arrived in Degoin around 12 and found the campsite. First stop was the pool. Quiet afternoon in the shade. Met a couple who have been travelling around the world with their bikes for 5 years. Interesting to talk with them about their travels.

Digoin is known for 3 canals all meeting at the Loire river.

Tomorrow we head in a more easterly direction, leaving the Loire and will follow a series of canals and secondary rivers until we reach Switzerland. The forecast still puts the temps up in the high 30s and low 40s for the next few days. That means early morning starts, very early afternoon stops and lots of water!!!
